Pneumocystis pneumonia (PcP) information

Pneumocystis pneumonia is caused by a fungus called Pneumocystis jirovecii. This fungus is commonly found in the environment and rarely ​causes any illness to healthy people. It was previously known as Pneumocystis carinii.

This leaflet is for people who are getting care, their visitors, and anyone else who is in a healthcare setting.​
