The commentary on quarterly epidemiological data on Clostridium difficile infection (CDI), Escherichia coli bacteraemia (ECB), Staphylococcus aureus bacteraemia (SAB), and Surgical Site Infection (SSI) in Scotland, July to September (Q3) 2016, was published 10 January 2017 under the mandatory programmes for surveillance of CDI, ECB, SAB, and SSI in Scotland.
This publication contains for the first time standardised E. coli bacteraemia (ECB) national surveillance data collected on a quarterly basis. New cases of ECB are categorised into groups of ‘healthcare associated infection’ or ‘community associated infection’, based on additional information collected in the enhanced surveillance programme for ECB.
This report provides data for the third quarter of 2016 in 14 NHS boards and one NHS Special Health Board. The report and an appendix detailing all cases and denominator data for each NHS board and overall for Scotland can be accessed from www.hps.scot.nhs.uk/haiic/sshaip/quarterlyepidemiologicalcommentaries.aspx
